2025 IOCL Apprentice Eligibility Requirements
As on May 31, 2025, candidates must confirm that they fulfill the following qualifying requirements.
- must be enrolled in a regular full-time course at an accredited Board, University, or Institute and hold the required qualifications (ITI, Diploma, Graduation, Class XII). Distance learning, correspondence, and part-time classes are not acceptable.
- For general, EWS, and OBC candidates, the minimum cumulative score is 50%; for SC, ST, and PwBD candidates in reserved seats, it is 45%. Passing the class is enough for ITI.
- Trade-specific requirements differ (e.g., ITI Fitter for Fitter trade, Diploma for Technician Apprentices, Class XII/Graduate for others, and B.Sc. for Attendant Operator). For comprehensive trade-by-trade qualifications, see the official announcement.
- Candidates with more advanced degrees (such as an MBA, MCA, BE/B.Tech, etc.) are not eligible.
- Candidates are not eligible if they are awaiting final results.
Age Limit:
- Age requirement: 18 years old.
- The maximum age for General/EWS candidates is 24 years old as of May 31, 2025.
- Relaxation by Age: Relevant in accordance with governmental directives:
- SC/ST: five years.
- OBC (NCL): three years.
- PwBD: 10 years for the general population, 13 years for OBC-NCL, and 15 years for SC/ST.
Experience/Previous Training:
- Applicants should not be pursuing or have previously completed apprenticeship training.
- Candidates having one year or more of post-qualification training or work experience are not eligible for Technician Apprentice positions.
- Technician Apprentice positions are not open to candidates who took their qualifying exam five years or more prior to the eligibility date (31-05-2025).
Selection Procedure for IOCL Apprentices 2025
There will be no written exam as part of the selection process. Merit-based selection will be used:
- The proportion of marks earned in the required qualifying exam for the relevant trade or discipline is used to create the merit list.
- Tie-Breaker: In the event that scores are tied, the older applicant is given preference depending on their birthdate. Candidates with higher Matriculation (Class X) scores will rank higher if the DOB is the same.
- Document Verification: Candidates who were selected on the basis of merit will be contacted for this process. Original records must be shown.
- Pre-Engagement Medical Examination: In accordance with IOCL guidelines and the Apprentices Act, candidates who are deemed eligible following Document Verification must take and pass a pre-engagement medical examination.
IOCL Apprentice Benefits & Salary (Stipend)
- Stipend: In accordance with the Apprentices Act of 1961/1973, the Apprentices Rules of 1992 (as amended), and the IOCL standards, apprentices will be paid a monthly stipend. The notification does not state the precise amount, but it complies with legal requirements.
- Additional Advantages:

- Safety shoes and a helmet (returnable for certain trades).
- Leave: 12 days of prorated casual leave and 32 days of general leave annually, plus any appropriate holidays.
